I brought the boxes of seed packets in from the greenhouse yesterday and it’s that wonderful time of year again. The time to plan.
There are already plants in the ground from last year, the perennials and biennials and some tulips too. I am adding a few seeds to the mix but more or less going with last years selection.
Hardy Annuals -
- Sweet Peas
- Calendula officinalis
- Salvia horminium
- Ammi majus
- Cerinthie purpurescens
- Scabious atropurpurea
- Helianthus
- Euphorbia Oblongata
Half Hard Annuals
- Cosmos
- Molucella
- Antirrhinum
- Cleome
Perennial and Biennial
- Verbena bonariensis
- Knautia
- Erysium
- Lunaria annua
- Dianthus barbatus
I may try a little meadow of wildflowers and some dahlia plants too. We’ll see how it goes. Trying to be realistic in the amount of space and time I have but also knowing that what I grew last year was nowhere near enough. So the ante has to be upped.
Deep breath and lets order those seeds.
Hey Cindy thanks for the great quote and it’s so true. My Cleome was eaten by pesky slugs last year hope to get some blooms this time.
Yes! Garden dreaming and planning at this time of year fills me with hope. And reminded me of this quote from author Laura Ingalls Wilder, “Anyone can be a successful gardener at this time of year, and I know of no pleasanter occupation these cold, snowy days than to sit warm and snug by the fire, making garden with a pencil – in a seed catalog.”
Cosmos and Cleome have been great successes for me. Love them. My husband longed for sweet peas and we tried two years in a row with pitiful results – our climate is too hot and humid! Ah, well, I’ll enjoy the pics of your sweet peas!
